Situation

One of Nixon Peabody’s core competencies is the ability to deliver creative solutions in highly complex legal situations. To help display this differentiation in a competitive market, Nixon Peabody determined that an exceptional digital experience with robust search would be a critical requirement for the website upgrade and launched a Sitecore initiative with a tight deadline to quickly bring a new website to market. They also knew that digital experience projects can become complicated quickly and that speed-to-market is very important. 

Nixon Peabody’s implementation partner, Merkle, initially set out to deliver the required search functionality using Sitecore Content Search API. However, the team ran into several hurdles in the backend and the front-end user experience did not live up to the desired experience. Having identified that site search was not only critical but a priority, Merkle recommended leveraging SearchStax Site Search’s out-of-the-box experience and easy-to-integrate approach.

Solution

Merkle collaborated with SearchStax to ensure that Site Search met all of Nixon Peabody’s criteria including keyword search, faceting, highlighting, spell check, search analytics, relevance tuning, and more. Merkle helped make the decision easy for Nixon Peabody by demonstrating the value-added by Site Search with minimal implementation effort from its technical delivery team. The product’s ease-of-use and quick implementation time were the winning factors. 

More importantly, Merkle and SearchStax demonstrated how easily and quickly Site Search can be implemented. In less than three weeks, Merkle launched SearchStax to meet go-live deadlines and deliver the customer experience that Nixon Peabody desired while also addressing all security and compliance requirements.

Results

Nixon Peabody’s website search was significantly transformed after implementing SearchStax Studio with impressive results that include:

  • Increased user activity with the search bar – After SearchStax Site Search was implemented, users visited 13% more pages and spent approximately 50% more time on the site consuming relevant content
  • An 8 to 13 point improvement in Vercel’s Real Experience Score on the two search pages where SearchStax Site Search was implemented
  • Dramatic improvement in search performance over the Sitecore Content Search API
  • The ability to leverage search analytics to make informed decisions on search experience and tune results to fit the needs of visitors without developer intervention
